Expo 2013 002Expo 2013 003Expo 2013 004Expo 2013 005Expo 2013 006The Oconto Area Chamber of Commerce sponsored its 6th Annual Business Expo  on Saturday, March 23, 2013 from 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. at the Bond Community Center. A larger than normal crowd  came to see over 50 businesses exhibit their products and services. The proceeds from the $1 admission went to the Rainbow House. The Chamber also donated a signed Jordy Nelson jersey to the Rainbow House booth for which raffle tickets were sold. The winner was Gary Perret. At 3:00 p.m. the 3rd annual Easter Duck Race was held in the Bond Center Pool. The winners of $25 gift certificates to any 2013 Chamber business went to Sue Shew, Gary Ahnen, Jim Bourassa and Mary Elias. The Chamber wishes to thank the Oconto County Reporter and WOCO for advertising the event and again to WOCO for broadcasting the event. Bayshore Academy After 5

The Oconto Area Chamber of Commerce hosted an After 5 in cooperation with the upcoming new Bayshore Community Academy in the Oconto School District on Tuesday, March 12, 2013. The new academy is for students who love to learn but are frustrated with school and want to be more independent but seek a deeper engagement in topics of interest. Each grade level is limited to 20 students each in grades 5-7 in the fall of 2013. The learning experience can be in cooperation with community members who could offer hands-on projects, innovative use of technology and a learning environment focused on academic excellence and success in a global economy.  The governance Board consists of Dean Reed, President; Tom Fulton. Vice-President; Shannon Durand, Treasurer; and Tracey Sohrweide, Secretary.  The teachers are Jenny Holmgren, Kelly Votava, Allison Campbell, Rhonda Ross, and Kari Brunette. Tours of the facility were conducted by Superintendent Dr. Sara Croney.
