Holy Trinity Parish
Biography
Holy Trinity Parish is bonded by a rich history of Catholic faith dating back to 1669 when Fr. Claude Allouez celebrated Mass in a primitive chapel made of bark and boughs. Through the years, Oconto would see beautiful churches erected that would stand stoic in the landscape of our little city. In 1996, the two Catholic churches in Oconto merged. St. Peter Parish and St. Joseph Parish became known as Holy Trinity, a name symbolic of our Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Our current church shares many beautiful attributes graced both former churches, including the majestic stained-glass windows and the incredible Stations of the Cross. However, one of the most fantastic attributes the two buildings share is the people. Through all the changes Oconto has seen in over 350 years of celebrating our Catholic faith, we have learned it is not the building that makes our church, but our parishioners, ever firm in sharing their faith and discipleship with one another.
For almost 150 years, many locals and visitors celebrated Mass at the incredible structure on Park Ave. It was a bittersweet moment when our very last Mass was celebrated there in January of 2019. The construction of our current church was completed on January 27th, 2019, we celecrated our first Mass with Bishop David Ricken presiding.
Whether celebrating Sunday Mass or gathering at one of the many social events hosted by our parish, our mission is always the same: We strive to lead all people to the Kingdom of God.
