Welcome to The Sim Links: A New Year-Round Destination in Oconto

There’s something special about watching someone bring an idea home.

This March, Oconto welcomes The Sim Links, a new indoor golf simulator experience founded by local entrepreneur Dillon Boehmer – and it’s more than just a place to swing a club. It’s a story rooted in family, community, and the belief that golf truly is a lifetime sport.

Inspired by Family, Built for Community

For Dillon, the journey started in his own backyard.

“My dad has been my inspiration and has been playing golf with me for as long as I can remember,” he shared. “He even built a golf hole with a flagstick for me in the backyard!”

As life got busier, Dillon found himself setting up a golf net each summer just to stay sharp – but without knowing how to improve his swing, and with winter limiting practice, it wasn’t enough. A golf simulator solved both problems.

“Being able to get instant feedback and play anytime of the year no matter what Mother Nature brings – that’s a game changer. I wanted to bring this business to the community to build confidence in the sport of golf for them to love it as much as I do.”

Golf Without the Pressure

For those who have never stepped into a simulator before, Dillon describes it simply:

“A golf simulator feels like golf without the pressure – mixed with tech, comfort, and entertainment.”

Whether you’re brand new to the game or fine-tuning your swing, The Sim Links offers a welcoming, relaxed environment. Simulators allow beginners to learn privately and confidently, while experienced players receive data-driven feedback to enhance their skills.

Golf can sometimes feel intimidating. The Sim Links changes that.

A Unique Experience

What sets The Sim Links apart?

The space is designed to feel like a golf club experience from the moment you walk in. With four large, built-in simulator bays – accommodating up to six guests per bay – it’s perfect for groups, families, leagues, and friendly competitions.

“As you walk into each bay, you will touch grass, as if you are outdoors on the course,” Dillon explained. “Our goal is for guests to feel like they are at a golf club.”

And yes – from age 3 to 107, if you can swing a club, you can play. (Anyone under 16 must be supervised by a guest 21+.)

Filling a Seasonal Gap in Oconto

Indoor golf brings new energy to Oconto’s winter months.

Instead of packing away clubs for half the year, players can stay sharp year-round. It also adds a new indoor leisure option for date nights, family outings, group gatherings, and friendly competitions.

“This will change how people see winter,” Dillon said. “You can still do a fun outdoor activity – indoors.”

Beyond recreation, it also supports local economic growth during traditionally slower months, drawing visitors into town who will also support other local businesses.

A Business Rooted in Oconto

Dillon grew up in Oconto and returned after attending UW–River Falls. He first stepped into a leadership role as business manager at his parents’ Ace Hardware, and now he’s launching his own venture.

“It means a lot to be able to give the community something fun,” he shared. “Golf is a lifetime sport. No matter your age – you can golf.”

Oconto Area Chamber of Commerce President Samantha Routheau believes The Sim Links represents exactly the kind of forward-thinking investment that strengthens the community.

“Dillon’s vision is exciting because it blends recreation, technology, and community connection,” Routheau said. “Businesses like The Sim Links don’t just fill storefronts – they create gathering spaces. They give residents and visitors another reason to spend time in Oconto year-round.”

She added, “Seeing young entrepreneurs return home to invest in Oconto speaks volumes about the future of our community.”

  • Leagues
  • Weekly contests
  • Monthly specials
  • Movie nights
  • Live sports events
  • Community tournaments for all ages

More Than a Simulator

When asked where he hopes the business will be in a year or two, Dillon didn’t talk about expansion or numbers.

“In a year or two, I hope this is seen as a true community hub in Oconto – not just a simulator space, but a go-to gathering place year-round.”

And that’s exactly what The Sim Links has the potential to become.

Oconto continues to grow because of people willing to invest their passion back into the place they call home. This spring, that passion looks like turf under your feet, a club in your hands, and the sound of a perfectly struck shot – no matter the weather outside.

The Oconto Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to welcome The Sim Links to our community and encourages everyone to stop in, take a swing, and experience it for themselves.
